We’ve gone mobile. From today, if you are out shopping and want to know about our recommended products, you can find them quickly on your phone.
The mobile site, consumer.org.nz/mobile focuses on the most popular areas of the main site including appliances, electronics, home and leisure.
Rather than a full list of products tested, mobile Consumer provides only recommended models and those worth considering. You can access the products, a photo, indicative price, summary rating guide and a need-to-know commentary. Our own research shows that visits to the main site from a mobile device have jumped 50% in three months. That’s fantastic, but until now getting to us via mobile has been a clunky experience.
We’ve worked with software company 3months for the development of the mobile site and at this stage you will need a high-end device like an iPhone, iPod touch or Android. We’re looking to extend that range as fast as we can.
It’s a toe in the water so any feedback on your experience with consuming us via mobile will be gratefully accepted. It’s also a member-only service and you will need to log in using your password. We’ll pass on updates to the site via consumer.org.nz, Twitter and Facebook.
So if you can’t make up your mind on a particular vacuum cleaner, fridge, mp3 player or telly, just log in to Consumer via your phone and start making those decisions easy. Happy shopping!

Thanks - works great on my iPhone. The one think I would really like to see is the other tested products being shown as well. When a product is not in the list and out shopping then we can't tell if it was tested but didn't rate a recommendation, or just wasn't tested. If it is selling at a great special price it may still be a good buy if if it wasn't recommended.
Good comment by John about the 'non-recommended' items. Also, access to the tests via an iPhone app would speed up the accessibility, especially outside 3G areas.
Thank you for your valuable comments. At this stage the mobile site is just a toe in the water for us. If it is successful we certainly will be looking at developing it further.
Kind regards,
